Chapter 18 Part 1 - The Wicked End

Gerard’s P.O.V

Why did I marry someone with an obsession with Ugly Betty? “Frank, we’ve seen this episode like, 5 times already. Do we really need to watch it again?”

“It’s better than the art channel which is what you were gonna watch.”

“Fashion is a form of art, so booyah, sucks for you!”

“Are conversations in this house, always this warped?”

“Dude, don’t you ever knock?”

“Dude, don’t you ever close your door?” We’ve known Brian for 4 months now and yet he still manages to be annoying in a friendly way.

“Why are you here? And why do you have a guitar?” And as it always is with my other half; straight to the point. I’m kind of annoyed that Brian’s have actually ‘cause me and Frank haven’t had any cuddle time in ages.

“I’m here to educate your offspring. Where is your offspring?”

“Offspring, Brian’s here!”

“I have a name.” Liam muttered, walking out of our bedroom. Odd. I thought he was in the kitchen. “Why are you here?” he asked, looking at Brian.

“To teach you guitar. Ready?” Liam just shook his head before running out again. Weird.

“Hey as you’re here, play us something. I wanna hear my competition.” Frank said, curling even further into my side.

Brian just shrugged, pulling his strap over his head and strumming absently. He stood firmly, and began playing one of the most complicated pieces of music I think I may have ever heard. I looked at Frank and he had the same goldfish expression on his face as me. Brian finished playing and looked up at our shocked faces. He’s made it look so effortless.

“You look like a shoal of fish. Someone say something please.” Me and Frank were still speechless but Liam came walking back in, clapping slightly.

“You’re good.” he commented.

“Thanks. Ready to learn from the master?” Liam shook his head and ran out of the room - again. “What is up with that boy?” Me and Frank shrugged simultaneously.

I’m kind of worried about Liam. He hasn’t picked up his guitar since the shit with Zacky and yesterday was proof of that. But he won’t talk to us either. I have to talk to Frank about this, I can’t let it go on any longer.

As if reading my mind Frank walked through the door to the kitchen, smiling at me. I walked over and closed the door behind him.

“Gee?”

“I think he’s gonna need help after everything that’s happened.” I started, lighting a cigarette and leaning against the counter.

“Help in what way? We can help him. It’s what we’re here for.”

“I mean professional psychiatric help.” I offered him a cigarette, he took it, leaning on the counter next to me.

“Gee…he’s fine.”

“I don’t think he is.”

“He is. I got through it fine without therapy and I was raped.” Actually, you turned to drugs. I don’t call that fine.

“You’re not an 11 year old boy.”

“If he was that traumatised, he wouldn’t be acting the way he is. He’s acting normally.” How has he not noticed?

“You mean apart from the fact that he won’t talk to us and he’s not picked up his guitar in 4 months. Or did you not notice that?”

“You need to stop worrying or you’ll put yourself in hospital.”

“He’s my son. Worrying never stops, it’s part of the job description.”

“He’s our son Gee.”

“Then why aren’t you as worried as I am? He’s not acting like our Liam at the moment.”

“I am. But seriously, I don’t think sending him to some stranger is going to help.”

“I’m not thinking of a stranger. I’m thinking of Sean. I know he’s a clinical psychiatrist but he’s done some work on child psychology.”

“Gee, do you really want everyone knowing our business? Ask Brian to talk to him.”

I scoffed. “Yeah, ‘cause he’s really gonna listen to Brian. He goes to him when we say no ‘cause he’s more of a pushover then you even, but he doesn’t do ‘chats’.”

“How do you know? He may snap out of it in a couple of days.”

“After 4 months?”

“If he won’t talk to Brian, what makes you think he’ll talk to a shrink?”

“They say that children are more likely to open up to a stranger because there’s less fear of rejection.”

“Why make him relive it Gee?”

“I find it helps okay? You’re stronger. I have a feeling he takes after me. I bottle up my problems and hurt myself is I can’t talk about them.”

“Fine. He’s apparently your son, and I’m supposedly not worried, so do what you like.” Oh Jesus Christ. I do not need Drama Queen Frankie right now.

“Frank, babe. Don’t take it like that. You know that’s not how I meant it.” I wrapped my arms around his waist.

“Sounded like it.” he pushed me away before continuing, “I just don’t see why we can’t try Brian first.”

“Because I know it won’t work.” I wrapped my arms around his waist and kissed his neck. “Please don’t be mad at me.”

“Liam trusts Brian, and so do I.” he resisted my hold again. I gave up and walked to the other side of the room.

“What is so much better about your way? Brian practically is a stranger.”

“Liam knows him, and Brian knows what happened. It wouldn’t be so bad for him.” he came and stood right behind me.

“I don’t trust him enough yet. You know how long it takes me to trust. Sean’s married to one of my best friends, I know him.”

“How much does Liam know him? Do you really want to make him recount it all?” he placed his hand on my shoulder but I shrugged him off and gave him a sour look.

“You’re obviously a much better parent than me so we better do it your way.”

“Gee! All I’m asking is we try it first. If it doesn’t work, then fine. Please?” He pushed me back, effectively trapping me against the wall.

“Frank, let me go.”

“No. Why can’t you see where I’m coming from?”

“Why can’t you see where I’m coming from?”

“I do. All I’m saying is it would be less traumatising for him if he didn’t have to relive it all.” He pushed closer, making me sigh.

“Trying to put the moves on me isn’t going to work Frankie. I’m mad at you.”

“How are we going to reach an understanding?” He pressed even closer, and pecked my cheek. “And why are you mad?”

“I’m not mad. Just frustrated because you won’t listen to me and that kinda does make me mad but whatever.” I tried to move away, failing miserably as Frank stood his ground.

“I am, but you’re not listening to me.”

“We’ve established that we’ve spent the last ten minutes not listening to each other.” I tried in vain to move away again. He kissed my neck.

“Gee, you’re not going anywhere.”

“Jesus Christ Frank. No wonder Brian thinks we have a purely physical relationship.”

“Gerard, I have a suggestion.” he paused, hands on my hips and kissing my neck again before speaking against my skin, “Give in.”

I looked him in the eyes and took hold of his hands. “What if I don’t want to?”

“Look, let him talk to Brian,” kiss, “If it doesn’t work, we do it your way.” kiss, “But see how it pans out for a couple of days.”

I rolled my eyes. “Fine, you win.” I picked him and walked to the bedroom.

“I always get round you Gee. Are we gonna have angry make up sex now?”

“Depends. Are you gonna be a good boy and do everything I say?”

“What happens if I’m not?” he asked, nipping my earlobe gently. God.

“You ain’t getting any babe. Simple.” I smirked.

“I guess I could be good. What are you gonna make me do?”

“Nothing too taxing I don’t want to wear you out. There’s still tonight to think about…”

“Don’t forget, Liam’s in the house. But give me some examples.”

“No, I like to keep you guessing.”

“You’re an evil, evil man.”

“Then why’d you marry me hmm?”

“Because I love you.”
